South London born and raised, Cleto Maréz’s productions exist in a world of their own. His sound is the consequence of heavy bassline sound systems, clipping EQs, Coxsone sound clash culture, and the roots of Jamaican multi-genre sonics. His beats swing between distressed melodies, looming undertones, social commentary and heavy hitting samples tiered with irregular drum loops. His ability to craft multilayered, efficacious beats has gained him underground support in all the right places. On new single 'Hope' Cleto is joined by two of New York's finest lyricists (and long-time collaborators) Goya Gumbani and Akai Solo, who deliver powerful words of perseverance over a shifting and brooding instrumental. After all, all we need is hope!
